It’s been about week and the dust has finally settled and another great Clays for Cancer event is complete. This, the 3rd Annual, was the biggest ever with 130 shooters in attendance. The donation monies have been transferred to Reel Recovery’s National Headquarters, and after costs, and with several generous sponsorship donations included, we raised just over $11,000.00! This ensures that we will have our April 2013 retreat in Rockbridge MO. Thanks to all who donated, volunteered, and attended; your help will now provide men here in the Missouri and surrounding states with the opportunity to attend an all expense paid fly fishing retreat which includes facilitated group oncology counseling. As a prior participant, I can attest to the healing power of this opportunity to meet and speak with other men facing similar battles with cancer.

Please take some time to visit this year’s Reel Recovery Missouri sponsor page, it acknowledges businesses and individuals who donated to Reel Recovery Missouri during the 2012 calendar year. Some of these donations were used to pay for our April 2012 Missouri retreat at Rockbridge, however, all of this Clays for Cancer event proceeds are for our next retreat in April 2013. Please support the businesses who support us, and if you know any of the folks on the list, say thanks for helping men with cancer.

While the complete list of 2012 Missouri donors can be found at the link above, I wanted to send a special thanks to our major sponsors of this year’s Clays for Cancer event:

Fiocchi of America
The friends of Cyndie Hearn Memorial Donation
Bass Pro Shop
Jeff Hearn
Kevin Calhoun
Mikel-Brock Investment Group
Rockbridge Trout & Game Ranch

Now for the most important stuff; if you know of a man who has, or has had cancer that might benefit from attending one of these retreats please have them contact me and I will be happy to assist them in registering for one. It matters not where they are in their journey, from just being diagnosed to being 20-years out from treatment, all are welcome. As a reminder, these retreats are no cost, and include all lodging, food, one-on-one guides, use of all fly fishing gear, and the group facilitated “courageous conversations”. Participants need not be fly fishermen, they don’t even have to have ever fished, as fishing assistance will be provided. Participants are only required to get a signed medical release to attend from any of their physicians, bring all medications, and clothing appropriate for the weather conditions we may encounter in the Ozarks in April. So again, if you know of someone, please have them contact me. I am aware that there are still a few slots available at an upcoming retreat in Flippin, Arkansas in a few weeks. So, if someone would prefer to go now rather than in April we can get them into Arkansas.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! The 4th Annual Clays for Cancer event will be September 21, 2013. We are planning for an even larger turnout with possibly as many as 200 shooters. Peggy at Ozark Shooters has assured me that the event format will run just as smoothly even with that number of shooters as they have a second clay field on the north side of the property that could be utilized next year. So start forming your squads now. I plan to get the online registration for next year’s event live just after the new year. I have spoken with the National Headquarters and we are planning to have a PayPal online payment option incorporated into next year’s registration form to make paying even easier.

Thanks again for your support and know that you have directly helped men with cancer here in the Ozarks.
