An oncologist with Central Care Cancer Center is extending his services to patients of South Central Kansas Medical Center and the surrounding area. Elshami Elamin, MD, started seeing patients in Cowley County earlier this month.

“I have greatly enjoyed taking care of cancer patients in the Wichita and Newton areas for more than 12 years and I am excited to extend this service to south central Kansas. We find that rural communities are where patients need us the most,” said Dr. Elamin.

Steve Perkins, chief executive officer at South Central Kansas Medical Center, said, “Our medical staff is excited to welcome Dr. Elamin to the hospital’s staff and the community. We look forward to working with him in the years ahead.”

The new Central Care Cancer Center is located in the Winfield Medical Arts building at 3625 Quail Ridge Drive in Winfield.

Dr. Elamin’s clinical expertise includes the diagnosis and management of all types of cancer, including leukemias and lymphomas, chemotherapy including intrathecal, benign hematological disorders including anemia, bleeding and coagulation disorders, and bone marrow biopsies.

He will be joined by his colleague, oncologist Cindy Chavez, MD, as backup with he is absent.

“Going through cancer therapy is not just chemotherapy; we are actually fighting cancer together,” Dr. Elamin commented. “To reach our goal, we need to keep our positive attitude, courage, confidence, and hope all the way through the battle. The cancer journey can be very difficult for you and your family; we are here to walk you through it every step of the way.”

Dr. Elamin completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the New York Methodist Hospital in New York in 1998. He also completed his Medical Oncology fellowship at the New York Methodist Hospital in New York in 2007.

Dr. Elamin’s resume also includes many research activities, certifications and licensures, honors and awards, professional memberships and publications.

Dr. Elamin and his wife, Zinab, have two children, a daughter, 15, and a son, 11.

“Dr. Elamin’s interest and commitment to patient care in our area is a great addition,” Perkins said.
