Navrat’s and the Central Cancer Care Center bring PinkTober to Emporia benefiting the local June Bug Cancer Foundation.
The June Bug Foundation was created in 2007 by the family of June Monnard Sauder. June, called “June Bug” by her family, was treated for breast cancer for 11 months at the Central Care Cancer Center before her death in 2005. Her legacy lives on in the June Bug Cancer Foundation started in her honor by her family and the employees of the Cancer Center.
The purpose of this Foundation is to help people with financial obligations as they struggle with their fight against cancer.
“June wanted to help families with some of the smaller incidentals included in the cost of living: food, transportation, lodging and in some cases assistance with utility bills. She just wanted to help ease the burden of cancer,” says Justin Braline, Manager of the Central Care Cancer Center.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Navrat’s will be raising funds for this worthy cause. They will be creating a tribute window of pink ribbon cards. Customers can come in and purchase a $5 pink ribbon in honor of someone in their life that has been affected by cancer. All of the ribbon proceeds will be donated to the June Bug Foundation.
In addition, there will be special pink products available in-store for purchase including pink blankets, pink scissors, pink totes and pink tie-dye tees. A portion of these sales will be donated to the June Bug Foundation as well.
“Every Wednesday in October, we encourage everyone in Emporia to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Let’s really make this a PinkTober in Emporia,” says Kent Schnakenberg, Salesman for Navrat’s Office Products. Navrat’s will be celebrating Pink Wednesdays every week in October with prize giveaways and refreshments.
